Goodbye horses

27 Jun

I recall when i was no bigger then a corn muffin, rummaging through the VHS cabinet that there was always one movie cover in particular that sent a wave of fear to tear through my tiny  limbs and forced me to turn the archaic tape over quickly so i didn’t have to look ghostly facade in its illuminated  eyes. that movie would much later turn into one of my favourite films of all time! i think thats irony but then again i haven’t the foggiest.  that film of course is the critically acclaimed:

this shit was scary!

this movie could make me wet myself! then again i never had good bladder control as a child, i think i once peed on my brothers Sega….they’re still sore about that!

In the film, Clarice Starling, a young FBI trainee played by Foster, seeks the advice of the imprisoned serial killer and cannibal Hannibal Lecter, played by Hopkins, to help apprehend another serial killer, known only as “Buffalo Bill“.

When The Silence of the Lambs was released on February 14, 1991, it received much critical acclaim. The film won the top five Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.

but it wasn’t until last year when a few friends and i got together for a french toast social that we decided to watch it (mostly for the famous dick-tucking scene, but what can you expect from a group of 16 year olds) and it was love at first watch.

i kinda had an idea about this movie, its been parodied multiple times by family guy and the like (or more notably Joe Dirt) and cable guy

and i only knew Jodie foster from the film Panic Room, (the only thing  remember from that movie is Kristen Stewart’s boyish charm and Jared Leto’s cornrows)

panic room

her gender really threw me for a whirl

He looked better in girl interupted

i adore crime dramas, horror films and mystery so anyone with a brain stem could have known i would have loved this movie but what really closes the deal is Anthony Hopkins portrayal of Hannibal lecter. i couldn’t wait for his scenes in the movie and i was shocked that he collectively only has 16 minuets of screen time in the entire film!

am i the only attracted to hannibal lecter?

the answer is no, you all secretly want to bone him.

after watching the movie for the second time with a close friend  who had never seen it before i felt the urge to dive deeper into this series but with the general animosity i have for sequels since there usually a big let down i decided to go a more scholarly route and pick up the books at my local library. I’m really more interested in the dynamics of Clarice and the good doctor but i fought the compulsion to skip right to silence of the lambs and picked up Red Dragon (also silence of the lambs was checked out)

dragon red

"dude...thats red" a quote from a very eloquent friend

plus i get to imagine a young William Peterson as the protagonist Will Graham  who plays him in the movie adaptation Manhunter.

i actually think hes more attractive older...i must just be into moldy oldies

I’m only about 100 pages in but I’m really enjoying it so far and every passage with Hannibal lector is my favourite 😉

and here is  my parting gift to you

my dad and i try to say this to each other at least ever day
